Virgil Meier, 78, of Highlandville, MO, left his place on earth to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 7, 2010 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born October 8, 1932, in Chestnutridge, Missouri the son of Emil and Helen Meier. He was united in marriage on January 26, 1957, to Katy Powers and to this union was born one child, Steven Douglas Meier.
He worked for 38 years at Lilly Tulip in Springfield, MO. Virgil will be remembered for his tremendous dedication to his family. The joys of his life were his two granddaughters, Jennifer and Shanelle, and his three great-grandchildren, Jordan, Lauren, and Jace. Virgil enjoyed life to its fullest including; fishing with his son, watching his family play various sporting events, and taking care of his lawn.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Helen Meier; and sister, Wilma Keltner all of Chestnutridge.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Katy; a son, Steven Meier and his wife Sherry of Highlandville; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Meier) Fergerson and her husband Chad of Nixa and Shanelle (Meier) Leigh and her husband Gerald of Highlandville; three great-grandchildren, Lauren Fergerson and Jordan and Jace Leigh; two brothers, James Meier and wife Louise of Granby, MO and Carl Meier and wife Bessie of Springfield, MO; a sister, Esther Maples and husband James of Highlandville, MO, and a host of nieces, nephews, and family.
The family would like to give special thanks to the entire HPC (Hospice & Palliative Care of Springfield MO) staff for their care and compassion they gave Virgil and his family.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at 1:00 pm at Greenlawn South Funeral Home with burial to follow in Schupbach Cemetery, Chestnutridge, MO.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 12 noon.
