Virgil Lee Thompson, born to Thelma Flora Myers and David Paul Thompson on August 27, 1944, passed away at 5:25 a.m. on February 8, 2013 at the age of 68, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He became a truck driver at the age of 21 and spent the next 47 years delivering goods all across the U.S. with occasional time away to pursue other vocational interests.
He was married to his beloved wife of 47 years, Betty Ann Thompson, on June 19, 1965.
He is survived by his 87-year-old mother Thelma Flora Myers of Springfield; his wife Betty Ann Thompson of Nixa; his three children John Thompson of Belton, Missouri, Roger Thompson and Teresa Hamm of Republic; as well as seven grandchildren, Kirsten, (Cricket to her poppa), Thompson, Kaitlyn Thompson, Brandon Thompson, Baden Thompson and, Madison (Maddy to her poppa)Hamm, Heather Thompson and the seventh being his cat Frisket.
Visitation will be Monday, February 11, 2013 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Greenlawn North Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 3:00 p.m.in the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
