Virginia Lee Lowery, age 80, of Clever, Missouri, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on April 8, 2024. Jenny, as she was more commonly known, was born to Guy and Irene (Branson) Rogers on June 17, 1943, in the small community of Bois D’Arc, Missouri. She grew up in Springfield and attended Central High School. In 1962, at the age of 19, Jenny was united in marriage to George Lowery. The couple shared 55 years of marriage before George’s untimely passing in 2017. Jenny was blessed with two loving stepchildren, Rhonda and Ramey.
Shortly after her marriage to George, Jenny started working at the Kitty Clover Potato Chips plant in Springfield. After working there for several years, she left Kitty Clover to start a new career at Southern Missouri Containers, also located in Springfield. Jenny’s 27 years with SMC were among her most rewarding years of employment. She took great pride in helping her coworkers produce some of the best corrugated products in the nation. Jenny’s hard work and dedication contributed to her success as a production worker and, later in her career, an indispensable office assistant. In 2015, Jenny retired from SMC in order to relax and spend more time with family and friends.
When not working and tending to her home, Jenny enjoyed a variety of activities such as bowling in a league at Sunshine Lanes, taking bus trips with her friends to play Bingo in Oklahoma and Kansas City, and fishing with her husband George. She especially liked to attend fish fry events at her brother Lee’s house. Other interests and hobbies included gardening, nurturing her rose bushes, solving crossword puzzles, piecing together jig-saw puzzles, and playing a variety of games with her family, especially Scrabble and Yahtzee. Jenny also enjoyed listening to country music, classic rock, and gospel. She loved coffee, Coca-Cola, and the television drama series, Homeland. Nothing, however, brought her more joy than spending quality time with family and friends. Her legacy of unconditional love, hard work, and faith in the Lord will continue to live in the hearts of those she touched.
Jenny was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Irene Rogers; husband, George; brothers, Donald Goddard, Max Goddard, Leon Goddard, Jim Rogers, and Bill Rogers; sisters, Mary Barker, Jennel Robberson, Anna May Beach, and Betty Nelson. She is survived by her two stepchildren, Rhonda Starks and Ramey Lowery; brother, Lee Rogers; sister, Irida McCafferty; sister-in-law, Ina Goddard; 6 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends whom she loved with all her heart.
Jenny’s family will host a visitation on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 pm, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, 10:00 am, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North.
Jenny will be laid to rest next to her husband in Rose Hill Cemetery located at 9903 N State Hwy Z in Willard, Missouri. Following Jenny’s service, there will be a formal procession from the funeral home to the cemetery.
