Volney “Lew” Bramwell was born August 1, 1930, in Littleton, CO. He was the youngest of four children born to Lloyd and Mary (Potter) Bramwell.
As a young boy, Lew moved with his family from Colorado to Windyville, MO, where he lived on the family century farm and attended Lone Rock Elementary. When Lew was 13, during the Great Depression, the family returned to Colorado. Lew graduated from Englewood High School in the class of 1948. He then attended the University of Denver, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in 1953.
Lew was a Christian and had accepted Christ as his Savior early in life.
On March 2, 1958, Lew was united in marriage to Julia Belle Sellars. Lew and Julia were blessed with three children: Chris, Charles, and Valerie.
Lew was honest, hardworking, loyal, and a wonderful husband, father, and friend. He loved to share his many life stories, which brought a smile to all who heard them. His mind remained sharp throughout his later years, and he could tell a story in great detail.
In his younger years, Lew worked professionally in Colorado and in Springfield, Missouri, at bowling centers. Later he became the owner and operator of Bramwell general store, just outside of Bennett Spring State Park, for several years. During this time, he also maintained the farm and raised his family.
Lew enjoyed bowling, fishing, and following his favorite sports teams- but his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
In 2003, Lew lost Julia to cancer. This was a very difficult time for the family; however, God blessed Lew again later in life with a wonderful relationship with Grace Wright. They enjoyed several loving years together. Grace and her family brought so much love and joy to Lew’s life. Thankfully, Grace was there to comfort and care for him until the time of his passing.
Lew was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Sidney Bramwell; two sisters, Marge and Mary; and many, many relatives and friends.
He is survived by a daughter, Valerie Bramwell-Harter of Ozark, Missouri; two sons, Chris of Tulsa, OK and Charles “Chuck” Bramwell and (wife Etta Bramwell) of Windyville, Missouri; Lew is survived by four grandchildren. Matthew Bramwell (wife Annie) and Brooke Sneed (husband Phillip) and Laura McAvoy (mother of Matthew and Brooke). Jake Harter and Ryan Harter and Stan Harter (father of Jake and Ryan), step-granddaughter, Amanda Anderson (Brian); step-great grandchildren, Adeline and Odin Anderson; and special companion, Grace Wright, along with her daughter Amy and son Douglas.
Service for Lew will be 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Greenlawn Funeral Home South Chapel in Springfield, Missouri, with visitation from 11 AM to 12 PM.
