Waldo Delano Lowery
Waldo Delano Lowery, age 84, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, in his home after a a brief but courageous battle with lung cancer. Waldo (Dode/Dody) was born to Wilburn and Dora (Stokes) Lowery on July 31, 1937, in Grovespring, Missouri.
Dode joined the United States Army on January 13, 1959 and was stationed at Fort Bragg before beginning his tour of duty in South Korea. His tour ended on January 12, 1961 and he was honorably discharged on December 31, 1964. Shortly after his return from South Korea, Dode was united in marriage to the love of his life, Betty Jean (Levan) Lowery, on June 1, 1961, in Miami, Oklahoma. Dode and Betty recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. In 1972, Dode joined Billings Lodge #379 and on March 14, 1973, his dream of becoming a Master Mason was fulfilled. He took great pride in being a member of the Masonic brotherhood.
Dode retired from Hiland Dairy after almost 40 years of dedicated employment. He was an avid sportsman who loved bird hunting and all things outdoors. He and Betty also enjoyed raising cattle on their small farm near Strafford. He is best known for having fun and making people laugh. Dode is survived by two brothers-in law, Gary Levan and his wife Barbara (Overland Park, KS) and Bobby Levan (Caney, KS); one sister-in-law, Janie Pashia and her husband EJ (Desoto, MO); and two very special nephews, Jim Lowery and Doug Levan. Dode was preceded in death by his wife Betty; his parents, Wilburn and Dora (Stokes) Lowery; his in-laws, Paul and Marie (Gray) Levan; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Levan; two brothers, Wallace and Wayne Lowery; and two sisters, Freda Parsons and Fern Perkins.
Dode leaves behind many people who loved him very much including a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation for Dode Lowery will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2022, from 4:00-6:00 p.m., at Greenlawn North. A funeral service will be held at Greenlawn North on Monday, June 13, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., with a military honors ceremony to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
