Walker Richard Miles, Sr., age 88, of Springfield, MO, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Cox Medical Center South. He was born February 9, 1927, in East Orange, NJ, to W. Floyd and Helen (Volckmann) Miles. He served in the United States Navy. Walker was a 1945 graduate of Bennington High School, Bennington Vermont, a graduate of Pittsburg Watchmaking School, and a 1969 graduate of Evangel College with a B.A. of Music. He was united in marriage to Ann Jerome on August 4, 1951 in Bennington, Vermont. Walker used his talents as a watchmaker for forty years. He enjoyed photography, magic, baseball, golf, he was a member of Quadra Brass- music quartet and Evangel Faculty Brass Quintet. He and Ann are members of Central Assembly Of God, where he played in the orchestra.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W. Floyd and Helen Miles. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ann Miles, Springfield, MO; five children, Kathy Leishing, Laura Allison, Walker Miles and wife Cindy, Mary Miles-Hanna and husband James, and Pete Miles and wife Angie; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Eloise Walsh; two nieces; four nephews; and a host of family and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 6, 2015, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Springfield, MO with Dr. Joe Nicholson officiating. Visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2015 at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Services have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield, MO.
