Warren Grant Bass, 89, of Springfield, passed away June 10, 2010, at The Arbors at Ravenwood. He was born September 19, 1920 in Buffalo, Mo., and was the son of Homer and Margaret Bass.
Warren graduated from Senior High in 1938, and served in World War II. He married his life long sweetheart, Mattie Mae Nettles, upon returning from the war and together they celebrated 63 years of marriage.
Warren was a letter carrier, life member of the NALC, and served the local branch as President from 1956 – 60. He was a life long member of Central Christian Church, where he served as Scout Master of Troop 4 for many years. While serving as Scoutmaster, more than 20 young men attained the rank of Eagle, two of which were his own sons. Warren was awarded the Silver Beaver by National Council of Boy Scouts in 1967. He was a member of the Springfield Boy Scout Band. Warren was an avid sports enthusiast, coaching whenever it was needed. He loved a good laugh, a practical joke, and helping others. He was a positive influence in the lives of many young men.
Warren was preceded in death by his wife Mattie. He is survived by a brother, Bill Bass of Ohio, sons Gary and wife Linda, Ken and wife Rosanne all of Rogersville, grandsons Andrew, Tim, and Grant, two great-grandchildren, and a foster grandchild.
The family thanks all of the staff of The Arbors, and Ravenwood for all of the love and care provided to Warren for the last 4 years. Today he is singing a new song.
Services for Warren will be held Monday, June 14, 11:00 am, at Greenlawn East, with visitation at 10:00 am, burial will be at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to Central Christian Church, Boy Scout of America, or the Alzheimers Association.
