Wayne W. Sumpter, age 73 of Bolivar, MO, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2023, in his home. He was born November 29,1950, in Decatur, IL, to Jesse J. and Betty (Fiddler) Sumpter. He graduated from High School in California and attended two years of college at Azuza College. He is a US Navy veteran.
He was united in marriage to Marilyn Struffert in 1976, and they moved to Missouri in1981. Wayne worked for St. John’s (Mercy) Hospital in Medical Records for over 30 years before his retirement.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Jim Sumpter.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 46 years Marilyn of the home; his daughter Karen Sumpter of Kansas City, MO; a sister in-law Linda Sumpter of Eugene, OR; two nieces: Janessa Ketchum of Eugene, OR, and Jaime Sumpter of NC; two great nephews and their families; as well as cousins, other relatives, and friends.
According to Wayne’s wishes his body will be cremated. Private family services will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be made at: www.greenlawnfuneralhome.com. Memorial contributions are asked to the Salvation Army in Wayne’s honor. Arrangements have been entrusted to Pitts Chapel Bolivar, MO.

Prayers and condolences for your loss. I worked with Wayne his entire career at St. John's, Mercy Hospital. Wayne was such a good person to all and worked so hard. He took care and walk staff to their cars on night shift and was always available to assist with anyone's needs.

I am so sorry for your loss, Wayne was such a great man. I worked with him in medical records. He was always such a great help about benefits at work and always willing to give the best advice and always made me laugh! I use to tell him “Wayne, if you ever run for President, you got my vote!” He will be greatly missed. Thoughts and prayers for you all, he loved his family dearly!
