William “Bill” Charles Maus, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully at his home after a long illness on December 3, 2023, at the age of 83.
Born on February 11, 1940, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Douglas Martin and Emma Ruth (Busch) Maus, Bill graduated from Westside High School in Omaha, Nebraska, and went on to marry Annabelle Lee Siford. From this union, two children, Robert and Lynnette, were born. The family later moved to McAlister, Oklahoma and then Springfield, Missouri, where Annabelle passed from this world on May 4, 1975.
Bill was married to Donna Carolyn Wollard on December 14, 1975, in Springfield, Missouri, joining their young families together to begin their journey of 48 years of marriage. He and Donna shared a love of family, their pets, travel and home improvement.
In his professional life, Bill found fulfillment in the insurance industry including many years with Grinnell Mutual Insurance Co. His career took the family to Neosho, Missouri in 1976. Their time there and the relationships forged left an indelible mark on their lives.
Bill’s love of sports – many sports – was a constant throughout his life. As a baseball player in school, then as a coach, local radio announcer, spirited fan and outspoken “armchair quarterback”. He was particularly devoted to the Nebraska CornHuskers and the St. Louis Cardinals, even trying out for the Cards as a young man.
He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, of the home; four children and their spouses, Bob and Julie Maus of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Lynn and Ron Loder of Marshfield, Missouri, Mike and Jennifer Herndon of Atlanta, Georgia, and Michelle and James Foster of Springfield, Missouri; eleven grandchildren, R. Taylor Maus, Shane Stone, Ronnie Loder, Katelynn Loder, Blake Herndon, Monica Kantor, Claire Plaster, Owen Plaster, Max Plaster, Mark Foster, and Martin Foster; six great-grandchildren; other family members and friends.
The family will hold a private memorial at a later date.
