William (Bill) McKinley Hartley, 102, died Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at the Strafford Care Center in Strafford, Missouri following a brief illness.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Loveta Hartley and their three children: Betty, Barbara and Gary. In 1990 Bill was fortunate to meet and marry Dorthey (Higgins). She too preceded him in death.
He is survived by his son-in-law Robert Hoog and daughter-in-law Donna Hartley. Also surviving him are grandchildren: Lisa and Gayla Uzelac, Connie (David) Mitchie, Stephen Hoog, Miles (Tina) Hartley, and Kim Burgess. William was blessed with eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Born and raised on a farm in Springfield, Missouri. He was the son of William Lewis and Narsie (Satterwhite) Hartley. Bill was one of twelve children. He had lots of wonderful stories that he liked to share about his family and growing up a Hartley boy.
Bill and Loveta resided in Springfield for many years until Loveta’s illness lead them to Longmont, Colorado. There they finished raising their three children. During that time Bill worked buying cattle for himself and various feed lots in the Colorado area. In the late 1970’s they found their way back to Springfield.
Bill always had a passion for raising cattle. In the early 90’s he and Dorthey bought a farm in Fair Grove, Missouri; there Grandpa Bill instilled in his great-grandchildren the love of raising cattle.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00am, Monday, March 5, 2018 at Greenlawn North Funeral Home with interment following in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
