Neil was born July 4, 1916 in Gallia County, Ohio to Cecil H. McDaniel and Ercyl L. Neal. Neil and his twin Nile were the oldest of nine brothers and one sister. Preceding Neil in death was his twin brother Nile, and brothers Rader, Walter, Carl, Orville, Otis and John. Still living is one brother, Carroll and his wife Helen of Ironton, Ohio and one sister Mary and her husband Carl Martin of LeSage, WV.
Neil is survived by his wife Linda, whom he married December 29, 1983. She was a loving wife who was devoted to Neil for the 29 years they were married. Linda devoted many hours tending to Neil and caring for his every need, especially during the past five years while Neil was at Springfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Neil will be greatly missed by all his family, friends, and caregivers.
Neil married Ethel Leona Call on February 13, 1938. They pioneered a church in Crystal Lake, MI and Neil was a store manager for the A & P Grocery Stores. In 1946 they moved to Newcastle, Wyoming where Neil was Dean and Teacher at the Black Hills Bible Institute. From 1948 to 1956 they pastored the Assembly of God Church in Newcastle, Wyoming. In 1956 Neil and his family moved to Springfield, MO where Neil was manager of the General Council of the Assemblies of God Book Store and Springfield Travel Service. The book store was transferred to the General Council in 1960 but he continued to manage and own the Travel Service until he retired in 1998. His wife Ethel preceded him in death September 24, 1983 and daughter Lois on April 23, 1996. Lois is survived by her husband Rev. Tom Shepherd of Amarillo, Texas.
Neil is also survived by two sons, David and his wife Judi, Marvin and his wife Donna, and daughter Betty and her husband Patrick McCullah, all of Springfield, MO. Three stepdaughters, Karen Davis of Springfield, Missouri, Kristy and her husband Rodney Morgan of Cache, OK, and Kayla and her husband Todd Waggoner of Battlefield, Missouri. Nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and eight step grandchildren.
Neil loved to buy, sell and work with his Limousin cattle on their farm just west of Springfield. He also loved to travel. He visited many countries around the world and had been to the Holy Land over 30 times.
The family would like to thank the Nurses and staff of Springfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center for the care given to Neil for the last five years of his life and Hospice Compassus for the care they provided the last year of his life.
Services will be 4:00 P.M. February 8, 2013 in Wesley United Methodist Church, 922 W Republic Rd. Springfield, MO 65807, with visitation from 2:30 to 4:00 prior to services. A private burial will be on Saturday in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
