William Thomas “Tom” Hoggard, age 89, of Paris Springs, Mo. passed away Friday, April 15, 2011 in Sonshine Manor, Republic, Mo. He was born September 5, 1921 in Hancock, Mo., to Russell and Grace (Wright) Hoggard.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, serving in the Central Europe and Rhineland Campaigns. William was awarded eight bronze stars, the Air Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was also a member of the VFW #963, Springfield. William retired from Burlington Northern Railroad as a yard master and was also a dairy farmer. He loved to fish and garden after his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell T. and Grace C. (Wright) Hoggard; his wife, Ella; son, Robert; two brothers, Floyd and Charles; and two sisters, Dorothy and Willetta.
He is survived by his daughters, Katie Sherrer, Everton, Mo. and Sally Toups, Springfield, Mo.; sons, Tom Hoggard, Buxton, ND. and Chuck Hoggard, Ash Grove, Mo.; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-one grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Peck, Kansas City, KS.; and many friends.
Memorial services for William Thomas Hoggard will be Saturday, April 30, 2011 in Paris Springs Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m., near Halltown Mo.
A private inurnment was held in the U. S. National Cemetery, Springfield under the direction of Greenlawn North Funeral Home.
