Wilma A. Cook passed away on December 27, 2013. Wilma was born on May 6, 1918 on a farm adjacent to the Union Grove Cemetery. Wilma was the twelfth of thirteen siblings born on this farm to Jackson and Martha Jane (Chapman) Hodges. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, twelve siblings, husbands Orace W. Ryan and Raymond Cook and daughter Judy Arlene (Ryan) Jett-McLane.
Wilma attended schools in Union Grove and Fair Grove. In high school she met and fell in love with Orace Ryan. They married in 1938 and moved to Bakersfield CA. In 1974 they returned to the Hodges farm and enjoyed retirement. In 1985, Orace passed away ending a very loving marriage of 47 years. Wilma later married Raymond Cook. They were married for 14 years until his death. Wilma had been a resident at Creekside at Elfindale for 6 years until her death.
Wilma loved being a wife and mother. She enjoyed life by sewing, knitting and cooking. Her fried chicken and pies were always the hit of any family get-together. She loved animals and always had cats and dogs.
She is survived by 2 daughters Janice (Fred) Scheible, Jacqueline (Reid) Williams both of Bakersfield, CA; son Ronnie (Jonette) Ryan of Farmington, CA; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; special friend Grace Perryman; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends and neighbors.
Visitation will be at Greenlawn Funeral Home North on January 2, 2014 from 9:00 to 10:00 am, with a service to begin at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Union Grove Cemetery.
