Wilma Jean Purvis, age 84, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on February 26, 2025, at the Arbors at Westbrook Terrace in Jefferson City, Missouri. Wilma was born to William and Lola (Ledbetter) Ledgerwood, on May 23, 1940, in Oregon County, Missouri. She was raised in rural Oregon County and graduated from Thomasville High School in 1958. She was united in marriage to Ira Purvis in May of 1979 and remained together until Ira’s untimely passing on July 28, 1983.
Wilma grew up on a Grade A dairy farm in Oregon County. She learned the values of hard work, putting family first, and having the Lord at the center of her life. Wilma, in 1962 along with her mom and dad, moved to Springfield where she worked as an operator at Lily-Tulip Cup Corporation for forty years. When not working, Wilma enjoyed bowling with Ira and camping vacation trips with her mom and dad. Wilma was a longtime member of Grant Avenue Baptist Church where she enjoyed worshiping and fellowshipping with her church family. She often worked in the Church library and thrift shop. Wilma was a Christian woman who lived her faith and maintained a personal relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lola Ledgerwood; husband, Ira Purvis; and nephew, Kenneth Martin. She is survived by her sister, JoAnn Martin and her husband, Fred; brother, Daniel Ledgerwood and his wife, Bobbye; four nieces, Phyllis Martin, Maria Pryor, Georgeanna Ledgerwood, and Danielle Ledgerwood.
A graveside service for Wilma Jean Purvis will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 2:00 pm, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Wilma will be laid to rest next to her husband, Ira.
