Jeannie loved big family get togethers. She always wanted to celebrate every holiday, birthday and anniversary in her own, big way. In her deepest desires, she always wanted those occasions to be formal affairs with china, tablecloth and candles, and she wanted everyone to gather and to talk and to celebrate. She absolutely treasured those special family times no matter how tough it might have been on her physically.
Jeannie loved her family immensely, and was a room parent, Brownie leader, little league mom and motocross mom – although she found it difficult to be at those motocross races because it was just too painful for her to watch. She was always the one who stayed at the hospital all night after those numerous motocross accidents.
When Jeannie was younger, she taught herself to play the piano. Although she never had a piano, she would hang out at the church where her dad was a minister and practice church hymns until she became proficient.
Jeannie also loved jewelry. She took what started as a part-time job at a local jewelry store and parlayed it into a private business. She was a true entrepreneur, and this became her passion for four decades.
She would talk to anybody and everybody, anywhere and everywhere. A good majority of the people that became her jewelry clients were her doctors, sales clerks, and waitresses… or maybe just the person she met in the elevator. Her kids can tell you that if you walked into Jeannie and Roy’s bank, favorite restaurant, or church – everyone knows them both by name. This is just a testament to her personality and her genuine love of people.
Jeannie loved to shop! Boy did she love to shop. Shoes and purses (and more shoes and more purses) were always at the top of the list. Dishes and glassware were not far behind. It was almost physically impossible for her to drive past a garage sale without stopping and buying up stuff indiscriminately.
Jeannie will be remembered for always being an optimist about her disease, multiple myeloma, which she battled for over 20 years. Her initial diagnosis was made in October of 1997, and she was given a prognosis of 3 years to live. So for 22 years, she did beat it! She was an amazing fighter.
On behalf of my brothers, Steve and Larry, we are going to miss our Mom terribly. She was a role model and inspiration to all three of us, and she always made sure we knew we were loved unconditionally. We are grateful for everything she did to ensure that we had the lives and experiences that she dreamed for us. Jeannie was a remarkable woman, and we are so very lucky that we were able to call her “Our Mom.” Thank you for everything, Mom, we love you.
Services for Jeannie will be at 11:00 am Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East with interment to follow at St. Peters Cemetery in Billings, MO. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am Saturday prior to the service.
