Wilma M. Gray, age 91, of Springfield, MO. passed away on March 17, 2011 at St. John’s Hospital. Wilma was born on August 3, 1919 in Butterfield, MO. She attended and graduated from Butterfield High School. Later she earned a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education from Southwest Missouri State University, and a Masters Degree from the University of Missouri. She was a school teacher in Berry county rural schools, and in Butterfield, Cassville, Neosho, and Springfield, a total of forty two years. In 1983, she retired from Roundtree School in Springfield. In 1995, Wilma received an Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award at the Annual Springfield Teacher Appreciation Banquet. Wilma was a member of South Haven Baptist Church in Springfield, where she dearly loved attending her Sunday school class.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Bertha Gray.
She is survived by her sister, Dr. Wanda Gray of Springfield, her sister and brother-in-law Colleen and J.D. McBride of Newtonia, MO. and her niece Renee’ Lewis and husband Brian, her great-niece Breanna Lewis, and her great-nephew Nathan Lewis, all of Granby, MO.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at 10:00 am, at Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Visitation will be Monday March 21, 2011 from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home. After suffering a stroke in 2006, Wilma resided at Christian Health Care West in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home South, Springfield, MO.
